The Rio Theatre is one of the most unique places to watch a movie in Vancouver. I love the retro atmosphere and the mix of programming β€” from classic films to special events and live performances. The seats are comfortable and the vibe feels very local and welcoming. They also serve drinks and snacks, which makes the experience even better. A great spot if you want something more interesting than a typical movie theatre.

This venue is amazing. The management here is doing everything they can to stay relevant, and they are doing a great job at that. From showing movie classics, to hosting some VIFF features, and even having music shows, you name it. This time, it was an intimate concert with Lloyd Cole that filled up the Rio. Upon entering the building you have a small lobby, stairs to the upper balcony on both sides, and the snack & beverage counter right in front of you. The seats are comfortable, with arm rests that move up or down as preferred. The stage is actually, pretty adequate in size for a music show, the acoustics quite good. If anything, everyone in the balcony was avoiding sitting in the first 2 rows there, the visibility limited by the wall at the end of the balcony. But otherwise, a great venue for a great show! The staff was very friendly, BTW.

Caught a Friday evening screening at the Rio and ended up spending half the time before the film just admiring the neon marquee out front for photos. The staff were genuinely friendly, cracking jokes while checking tickets and happy to chat about the lineup for the week. Seats were comfy and the sound system had a nice warmth to it, not the tinny blast you get at the big multiplexes. Parking on Broadway took a few laps to sort out, but honestly the atmosphere inside made up for it completely.

What a funky, artistic, old theatre with pizazz love it. Like a hole in the wall and when you walk in , lots of popcorn machines popping , bright lights, balcony, great service, cheerful happy service and I love the old ticket window that just popped I love the old neon sign , the big billboard showing the times and the sandwich board letting you know what’s now playing. What a hoot, it’s walking back into the 50’’s with forward thinking, I love the bathrooms all genders . The only downside was it was not as clean as I was hoping , wet countertops and the one soap dispenser was out. Otherwise great plenty of stalls and private, There is free parking you just have to arrive early. The movie was a riot Sleep away camp I grew up in the 80’s and I somehow missed this, there are 3 sequels to the franchise and i love campy, over the top exaggerated clothes, foul language, hilarious horror scenes and for its time it is site to be a cult classic if it is not already, The movie seats are original but obviously upgraded but comfy not the recliners but I think that would take away from the aesthetic of the Theatre. Afterwards , they put out a few bags of fresh popcorn for free how cool is that. I throughly enjoyed myself and had a Good Friday night out!!

I came here for Dune 1+2 double viewing, and it was my first time stepping in Rio theatre and it certainly won't be the last. This is an old school theatre and I liked how much legroom you get. The viewing quality is also good, the screen is clear enough, and the sound was on point. Overall, 4/5 solid theatre. One thing they could improve on is a bigger men's washroom, it was way too packed.
